CAREGIVER MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAM

The Wellness Center for Older Adults has a variety of mental health and wellness supports available at no cost to caregivers due to a grant from the North Central Texas Area Agency on Aging, as well as state, local, and city grant partnerships.  Our grant defines a caregiver as any family member, friend, or other non-professional who is responsible for the care and supervision of another person, living in Collin and surrounding counties, and is 60 or older with illness or health decline. The age requirement is waived if the diagnosis is a developmental disability, dementia, or other cognitive impairment.  Please call the office at 972-953-7669 to inquire about any of these caregiver supports and confirm the most current, up to date schedule.

Mental Health Caregiver Support(s) are designed to be emotionally and therapeutically supportive. Anyone participating in these supports must complete the required paperwork and meet with the Counselor for an initial consultation.

  • Individual Counseling includes an initial consultation to develop a Caregiver Support Plan, development of counseling goals, short term individual counseling, and timely transition into the most appropriate caregiver support program.  Individual Counseling is available at no cost to caregivers Tuesday through Friday, 9 am-3 pm.

  • Emotional Support Groups are emotionally supportive groups designed to facilitate the encouragement of peer interaction and shared caregiving experiences.  Caregiver Emotional Support Groups meet monthly at a variety of times, both in person and online via TEAMS.  Please see the current schedule for groups offered at this time.
