Wellness Center for Older Adults

Are you a caregiver needing support?
Various times Monday - Wednesday
If you are in the role of a caregiver, you may be feeling worn down, frustrated
and tired. Join Nora Gravious, LMSW, for a support group of other caregivers
and leave knowing you are not alone. Also available is a support group for
caregivers who have recently lost their loved one and are grieving that loss.
Both open (for anyone to attend) and closed (having met with Nora individually first) groups are available. Please call 972-953-7669 or stop into the Wellness Center to pick up a detailed list of all the available groups and times.

The Front Porch
Third Thursday of the month, 1:00 - 2:30pm
The “Front Porch”, a monthly meeting, allows 8-10 people to enjoy an
afternoon of congeniality. A specific activity is always “planned” but the
meeting is actually free-flowing. The real goal is to laugh and have fun as
we enjoy a respite from the trials and tribulations we all face as we care for others
and ourselves during this pandemic. The Rotary Club of West Plano has partnered with WCOA to provide items for gift bags. This event is held at the Wellness Center for Older Adults inside the Sam Johnson Recreation Center.

Mental Aerobics
Second Tuesday of the month, 10:30-11:30am
This program is designed for those wanting to keep their thinking sharp and cognitive reasoning functioning high. We use puzzles, games and conversation to stimulate the brain and memory. No reservation is required. Come and join our group! Meeting on the second Tuesday of the month from 10:30-11:30am in Classroom #2 at the Sam Johnson Rec Center.

Memory Cafe
Fourth Wednesday of the month, 1:00-2:00pm
Come and join in this supportive and social environment including brain and memory exercises for Dementia and Alzheimer's patients and their caregivers. This class takes place on the third Thursday of every month from 9:30-10:30am at the Sam Johnson Rec Center. Please call our office at 972-953-7669 to sign up to attend.
